Step 14 — Understanding Negative Prompts

Negative prompts tell the AI what to avoid in generated images. While regular prompts describe what you want, negative prompts explicitly exclude unwanted elements. Mastering negative prompts gives you greater control over AI output. AI image generators can interpret negative instructions as exclusions. Writing no blur or avoid oversaturation guides the AI away from these issues. Negative prompts work best when addressing specific, common problems rather than vague dislikes. Typical negative prompts address technical issues: no blur, no distortion, no artifacts, no watermarks. They might exclude unwanted content: no text, no logos, no extra limbs. Or prevent style problems: not cartoonish, not oversaturated, not grainy. Over-reliance on negative prompts can backfire. The AI works better with clear positive direction than long lists of exclusions. Start with strong positive prompts, adding selective negative prompts only for persistent problems
